Definition AND HEAD WORK FUNCTIONS
Definition:
Any hydraulic structure that supplies water to the penstock. Diversion head work provides an obstruction across a river, so that the water level rises and the water is diverted into the canal at the required level. The level of water helps increase the flow of water by gravity and result in the increase of the area ordered and reducing fluctuations of water in the river.
Diversion head-work can serve as a regulator of silt in the channel. Due to the obstruction, the speed decreases sediments of rivers and sits on the bed. Allowing clear water to the permissible percent silt to flow through the channel controller.
To prevent direct transfer of flood water in the canal.
HEAD WORK FUNCTIONS:
A head work raises the water level in the river or dam or canal
Water intake is regulated in the channel,It also controls the entry of sediment in the channel,A head work can also store water for short periods of time.Reduce fluctuations in the level of supply in the river
